MY FAVOURITE WRITER
There are so many writers. Everyone has his peculiar style of writing. Some specialize in a particular branch of literature like dramas or novels or short stories or essays. Some write in a humorous vein, others are serious in their approach. They appeal to different varieties of readers according to their tastes. My favourite author is Charles Dickens. Charles Dickens is an English writer. He lived in England in Victorian age. He is a famous novelist of English language. Charles Dickens has an impressive list of novels to his credit. These novels are «Pickwick Papers», «A Tale of Two Cities», «David Copperfield», «Oliver Twist», «Great Expectations» and many others. Several of these stories have been adopted for the cinema and have been made into successful films. When Dickens wrote these stories he could not have dreamt that his stories would be filmed and shown to thousand of people in different countries of the world.
The reason of my liking Dickens is that I like him for the engrossing stories of these novels for the streak of humour running through his writings and for the sympathy he shows towards suffering of the poor and alone of all for his delicate understanding of children. Dickens has portrayed the character of small children with such sensitive and delicate understanding that the writings immediately appeal to the reader. He has an art of describing a character in such a way that the character seem to come to life and walk out of the pages of the book to stand before our eye. His characters are unforgettable once you read about them you would feel that you have struck friendship with them.
Who can forget the character of Mr. Pickwick after making his «Oliver Twist» the picture of the old cunning Jew will be firmly impressed upon your mind as that of Shylock the Jew from Shakespeare»s Merchant of Venice. Read his Tale of the Two Cities and you will not be able to forget the character of Sydney Carton who has a rough down exterior but a gently heart and who lays down his life for a noble cause.
This is so far as the characters in the novel of Dickens go, but his stories are equally impressive. His works really great for me. When I get sad, I read «Oliver Twist» and my mood immediately lifted.
Charles Dickens - a great writer.
